That density is what makes a thin-walled carved basin possible. What it is not is acid-resistant — which is why the care notes below matter more than the strength figures.

No — properly sealed natural Carrara keeps its cool white tone; just avoid acidic cleaners and re-seal yearly.
Is Carrara good for a family bathroom?
Yes — at 0.10% water absorption it is a dense, low-porosity stone, it cleans with pH-neutral soap, and its light grey veining hides water spots far better than dark stones such as Nero Marquina. Avoid acidic cleaners, vinegar and limescale removers.
How strong is Carrara marble in a carved basin?
Bianco Carrara data sheets give a bulk density of 2,710 kg/m³, compressive strength of 133 MPa and flexural strength of about 15.4 MPa (ROSSITTIS material data, 2026). That is dense enough for the 25–40 mm wall thickness we carve, and comfortably above the ASTM C503 minimums for calcite marble dimension stone.
