These are not thin veneers: ASTM C503 sets a minimum density of 162 lb/ft³ for calcite marble and a minimum compressive strength of 7,500 psi, so a typical vessel basin lands between 60 and 120 lb and needs a vanity rated accordingly.
Like all Calacatta marbles, Viola has a calcium carbonate base. The Natural Stone Institute notes that such stones "are of a calcium carbonate base, and as such, are vulnerable to alteration by exposure to mild acids," with water absorption that "varies from slight (<1%) to high (>10%)." In practice that means two simple habits: wipe up acidic spills (citrus, wine, some cleaners) promptly, and keep the surface sealed so absorption stays near the low end of that range. Marble that meets ASTM C503/C503M, the standard specification for marble dimension stone, absorbs no more than 0.20% of its weight in water — the low end of the Institute's range, and the reason a sealed Viola sink handles daily bathroom use with ease. Is Calacatta Viola marble durable for daily use?
Yes. Marble qualifying under ASTM C503/C503M absorbs a maximum of 0.20% of its weight in water and must reach at least 7,500 psi in compression and 1,000 psi modulus of rupture — figures that comfortably exceed anything a bathroom asks of it. It needs only pH-neutral soap and a wipe-on re-seal about once or twice a year — test it by dripping water on the surface: if it beads, the seal is intact.
Does a Calacatta Viola sink stain or etch?
Because it is calcium carbonate, acidic liquids can etch a matte mark on an unsealed surface, and unsealed marble can absorb oils. Sealing plus wiping acidic spills promptly prevents both — the same care that applies to any marble sink.

Will hard water leave marks on a Calacatta Viola sink?
It can, and how quickly depends on your supply. The USGS classifies water at 121–180 mg/L of calcium carbonate as hard and anything above 180 mg/L as very hard; at those levels a whitish mineral film appears on any stone basin within days. Viola's ivory ground hides it far better than dark marble does. The one thing never to use is a limescale remover — those work by dissolving calcium carbonate, which is exactly what the sink is made of. Dry the basin after use and clean with a neutral cleaner.
